About Us – The Birth of Anaruz Luxury Camp

Our Roots in the Sands
We are Ismail (the youngest) and Moha (the eldest), brothers born and raised in Merzouga, where the dunes of Erg Chebbi rise up to 160 meters, shifting like golden waves beneath an endless sky.. From our earliest days, our world was painted in ochre and amber: waking before dawn to tend our family’s camels, sharing sweet mint tea at sunset, and sleeping under a canopy of brilliant stars. Our parents and four sisters taught us that true wealth lies in generosity—offering water to a passing stranger or a tent to a weary traveler. In our veins flows the timeless spirit of the Amazigh people, who have called these sands home for millennia.
A Childhood of Wonder and Tradition
As children, we learned to read the wind’s whispers, to track small creatures across the dunes, and to honor the desert’s quiet power. Each grain of sand carried a story: of caravans crossing continents, of ancient tribes forging alliances beside hidden Oasis, of poets composing verses to the rhythm of camel bells. Our family feasts beneath the open sky were rich with laughter, song, and the aroma of tagines simmered for hours in clay pots. We felt, even then, that the Sahara was alive, and that it held lessons far beyond any classroom.
Journeys of Knowledge and Adventure
Our paths diverged yet remained united by that shared love of the desert. Moha pursued formal studies, earning a Master’s in Ecotourism Science and Geology and now working toward a PhD in Geological Heritage and Sustainable Tourism. He became an official Moroccan tour guide—licensed to teach both the science of our landscape and the lore of its people. Meanwhile, Ismail left school early to master the dunes firsthand, driving 4×4 safaris by day and guiding camel treks by night, his laughter echoing like windchimes through desert canyons. Together, we learned that true expertise blends study with experience—and that the heart must guide the mind.
Founding Our Agency and Family Legacy
In 2014, driven by a shared vision, we founded our own travel agency, determined to offer more than itineraries—to kindle connections. Guests arrived as strangers but left as friends, moved by stories of Berber artisans weaving carpets, enthralled by nights of drums and dance beneath the Milky Way, and transformed by the Sahara’s silent majesty. We heard again and again, “We’ve never experienced anything so authentic.” Those words fueled us, reinforcing our belief that every plate of couscous and every whispered legend must come from the heart.
The Gift of a Name—Anaruz
Our camp’s name, Anaruz, came as a blessing from one of our dearest guests, Erin. She and her daughter Kaylee are fellow travelers who fell in love with the desert and now call Anaruz a second home.
In Tamazight, Anaruz means “hope”—a name fitting for two brothers who dared to dream beyond the horizon. Hope carried us from nomadic tents to luxury pavilions; hope guides every sunrise we share with new friends; hope anchors our promise that the desert’s magic can heal, inspire, and unite.
Crafting the Luxury Camp
Anaruz Luxury Camp stands as our family’s living portrait: handwoven Berber carpets meet plush king-size beds; carved wooden doors open to private verandas where you sip sunrise coffee; solar panels hum softly alongside traditional lanterns, blending sustainability with serenity. We harvest well water for our en-suite bathrooms, source local honey for mint tea, and serve tagines featuring vegetables from nearby oasis. Every detail reflects our love for the land and our commitment to responsible hospitality.
Your Invitation to Belong
Anaruz is more than a collection of tents—it is an embrace. We invite you to wander ancient caravan routes by camel, to trace constellations with Moha’s geological insights, to share stories with Ismail around the fire as drummers call the night to life. Here, under a sky unbroken by city lights, you will find yourself part of our story—woven into the dunes, carried on the wind, and held forever in our hearts.
Welcome to Anaruz Luxury Camp—where hope, heritage, and family unite beneath the Sahara sky.
